Review on Sangean WR-7DK Dark Cherry Wood Cabinet Mini Bluetooth Speaker with FM Radio Tuner and Aux-in by Courtney Grant

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Darling, I shrunk the desk radio!

This baby is adorable. I grew up listening to these classic KLH tabletop radios and the retro style of the WR-7 touches me to the core. The body is made of natural wood, solid and very beautiful. The speaker grille is metal (it seems); The dials are plastic and I agree with a previous review that the volume and dial buttons are really tiny but serviceable. The tuning wheel requires a steady hand, but the tuner locks into a station once you find a spot and I've found that while it doesn't have the sensitivity of my full-size radios, it works surprisingly well. It helps to use the included wired antenna - there's a connector on the back, a micro-USB connector and an additional connector for connecting, for example, an iPod. The radio also comes with a micro USB to USB cable for charging and a velvet carrying case. The most impressive thing about the WR-7 is the sound. Let's be reasonable: You don't get rich on such a small dynamic. But the good guys at Sangean did a wonderful job considering how damn small this block is. You get enough bass to convey a sense of depth and body, and the balance of mids and highs is easy on the ears. Without distortion it gets quite loud. Pairing with Bluetooth is very easy. I haven't tested the battery life closely, but I took it on a recent four-day vacation where it lasted most of the day on a single charge. This is now my favorite bluetooth travel speaker. It's not waterproof or as durable as the excellent UE ROLL 2, but it's easier to pack into a suitcase or backpack and is pleasant to use and look at.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Easy maintenance
