We bought these for our 12 year old choir. He needed trousers and shoes. He's tall but doesn't have the waist like some kids have in a size 14. They have an adjustable waistband on the sides that allows for a 2 inch adjustment. You don't need much - check the size chart before you buy, it's very accurate. We usually buy 12 and bought 14 for accurate measurements and it worked great. For our purposes, that's fine. Wish the bottom leg opening was a bit larger so if you have thick shoes you might want to reconsider. As if they would not work with any type of boots and would hardly match the shoes, that we bought for the choir. But they're good for two performances,
