I made a "floating shelf" for my reef aquarium out of Plexiglas and dried pieces of CaribSea live rock "LifeRock FragZone". Despite thorough cleaning, the stone still caused a mini-cycle and led to the HSG. Since the shelf was already attached to the rocks with coral and had a fairly permanent place in my aquascape, I wasn't interested in taking it out and scrubbing it with the other GHA hand controls. Based on feedback and comments on reef boards I tried Reef Flux. According to the instructions, I turned off the skimmer, diluted the correct dose (single dose) and poured it into the middle chamber of the sump. After 24 hours of use, it was working. Hours and within 3 days the HSG was completely gone. This is a fairly well established reef whose live rock has been at my home in this or that aquarium for about 5 years. Nutrient exports have long been balanced without any unwanted algae or cyanobacteria being seen. The problem only crept in after I added a newer, dry breed. 20 years of running reef aquariums and experience with all the ugly stages an aquarium goes through before it reaches a solid balance and I've never had a better experience. get rid of annoying algae. I would buy it again if I ever had to and would happily recommend it to any reefer with HSG issues. Viva Reef Flux!
