This item is a thin plastic case with a thin top and a thick silicone skin. If you can break a product without even trying to use it for the sole purpose of existence, it's probably an inferior product. The instructions for "opening" the case are tiny and hard to read, but I did see "carefully remove the cover with your fingers". The detachable part is the upper part of the plastic case. When I used my fingers to pry open the two retaining clips on each side of the case, the top broke off at one of the clip connections.
