This product is very suitable for repairs. It's NOT leather, it just looks like leather. With a limited number of colors, you may not get an exact match, so it never looks invisible. So if you want your purse or couch to look brand new, this won't be the case. But it will close the rift and prevent the condition from deteriorating. It comes on a roll and is as sticky as a new roll of duct tape (so sticky you'll have to clean your scissors after you cut it). I would suggest placing it correctly the first time for better adhesion. For tears, I would suggest the two-person method: one person holds the tear closed while the other applies tape. Then put a small weight on it and leave it on for ten minutes. This is a smooth tape with smooth edges to avoid snagging or smearing the edges.
