Due to my negligence in reading the reviews (and product description) I attempted to adhere the mounting strip with various other double-sided adhesive strips with no success. Then I realized that the adhesive is ALREADY part of the mounting strip *facepalm*. Once I figured this out, all went smoothly and it sticks great and works well.
