sort of protects during maintenance, service and repairs

Protected against one drop, after which one of the lens caps bounces off. This isn't the case (I'm using a bumper case) but this was done just in case of drop safety. It worked - once, which really mattered to me as it was a 4+ foot fall onto a hard surface. It seemed normal for a light, ordinary insult. Now I need a lens protector. I only use this because my bumper case doesn't protect the lens (which makes it very flimsy).
