Review on πŸ’‘ Sintech NVMe PCIe M.2(M-NGFF) M Key SSD to PCI-e X1 Adapter Card - Compatible with Samsung 960 970 EVO: A Seamless Solution by Mike Marks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I liked it - I bought a second one, but after 2 weeks the fans failed. Detailed information on fan replacement.

11/01/2017 Latest update for those with fan issues. 2 PCIe cards I bought. They move a lot of air even when the speed controller is halfway up the board. Even the fans are silent. Sunon 50x50x15mm 12V Mid Speed Fan 2Pin Connector KDE1205PHV2.MS.A.GN Very happy with it. Note that these fans are 15mm thick and the OEM fans on the card are 10mm thick. The screws that come with the PCIe card fan are not long enough. I had a lot of mounting screws at home so I didn't have to run around looking for new ones. Longer screws for the fan mounting studs are available at hardware stores - size 3mm x length 20mm. Update: I just changed my rating from 5 stars to 4. As another reviewer mentioned, fan life is an issue. I've been using 2 of these for a few weeks now. In week 3, both fans started squeaking on startup. The noise lasts for about 30 seconds before fading away. Fan size 50mm. I upgrade my fans to either a better quality double ball bearing or a liquid bearing. I believe the fans that the card came with are cheaper sleeve bearings. I removed and tested the fans when connected to different PSUs - same startup sound so obviously the problem isn't with the card itself or the speed controller on the card - just think they're using cheap fans. really like this card. I put a Samsung 960 Pro M.2 on it and it never stuttered due to overheating while writing 10-50GB of data on it while editing videos. I'm getting full read/write speeds (taking into account my motherboard limitations below). It is currently used on an older motherboard (Gigabyte X58 series, PCI-E version 2.0 slots) that does not have M.2 slots. . This does not require card drivers. I just had to install Samsung's 960 Pro NVME driver for my computer to see it. By the way, it is used as storage, not as a boot drive. The fan on the card has a knob to adjust the fan speed. Mine is running at full blast and I can't hear it. When it comes time to replace the fan, this is a standard fan size and not expensive. Apologies for mentioning this without specifying the fan size. Additionally, the kit includes more than enough hardware to attach the bracket and fan, and even a small screwdriver.
