I bought this for a Compaq Armada 7770DMT. I was greeted with error 1782 hard drive controller errors and the laptop froze. If you have a 486 or Pentium 1 based Compaq, don't buy it. It will not work. You may be greeted with obscene beeps that can be heard throughout New York. I was able to install this drive and work with it in the Compaq EVO N600c with no problems. This laptop runs like a champ on Windows XP with this adapter. It was plug and play. Just in case, I tried the drive in a Panasonic Toughbook CF-48. If I didn't use an enclosure, the drive would work like a plug and play. The hard drive does not physically fit into the case. If possible, check compatibility before purchasing. Don't buy it if you have a 486 or Pentium 1 based Compaq. The only exception might be the LTE 5000 series as it uses a different BIOS than the rest of the Compaq laptops of that era. Update: This adapter is not suitable for LTE 5000 series. The drive recognizes it well, but the laptop hangs when booting from the Windows boot drive if there is a partition on the drive.
