Works out of the box!

My brother's refurbished 2004 17" Powerbook with an old mSATA drive I had with this adapter. mSATA would never be used as all my PCs have an m.2 or SATA SSD. I literally screwed mSATA into the adapter, plugged the whole thing into the laptop and booted MacOS from the disk. Everything works out of the box, no problem!

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • No form required

Upgrade for my iBook G3 Snow/Dual USB

Works great with a little modification, need trimming the left side of the case and the corner of the board. I used a PLA filament cutter to trim off some of the excess plastic and it works great. Now I don't have to worry about the loud clicking of an old hard drive.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • unreliable

Works great if your laptop can see it. Or physically fit.

I bought this for a Compaq Armada 7770DMT. I was greeted with error 1782 hard drive controller errors and the laptop froze. If you have a 486 or Pentium 1 based Compaq, don't buy it. It will not work. You may be greeted with obscene beeps that can be heard throughout New York. I was able to install this drive and work with it in the Compaq EVO N600c with no problems. This laptop runs like a champ on Windows XP with this adapter. It was plug and play. Just in case, I tried the drive in aโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Worth the money

Very fast, for IDE to SATA

Used with Kingston 120G SSDNOW UV500 mSATA drive in an old DELL Inspiron 6000 laptop with IDE drive interface, 2GB RAM and Windows 10 32-bit Amazing 14 year old laptop can be replaced with a solid state hard drive and used with Windows 10! Just don't expect multitasking from a single-core processor.

Pros
  • Quick swap
Cons
  • Some bugs

had some stability issues when used with a USB3 adapter, but changing the port fixed it (common with pat drives on USB adapters). I can't access Kingston's built-in mSata smart drive, nor can I update the mSata firmware, but achieved 90+ MB/s reading and writing to mSata over USB3. will be updated as soon as I have a chance to test a direct pat install. Let's see if it can even use a really old 2.8GHz P4 with 1GB RAM compared to a 5400rpm mechanical drive that takes many minutes to bootโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Looking forward to
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Brought a slow laptop back to life in 2004!

In an old laptop was a slow but still working HD. but the person slowly loaded, read, wrote. I'm sure it was the king of the hill in 2005. and now it's unbearable. I've been looking for something for the last year and then all I saw was this. What a wonderful idea. Bought with a mini SATA solid state - easy to assemble and fits like a charm! Very satisfied! The old Linux laptop runs faster again than when it was new.

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • For old

It Works Computer Accessories & Peripherals

I got this more as an experiment, you know, tech fun. I have an old Dell with a PATA drive. I installed it. Restarted Windows 8.1. Exactly, no errors but OMG slow. So slow that after waiting 12 hours for a normal 174 file update to load I went back to the old PATA drive which felt like greased lightning. I plan further experiments with other machines. thanks for the fun

Pros
  • Best in Niche
Cons
  • Style 90

Ideal for older computers

Combine them with inexpensive SSDs (choose the right ones carefully, mSATA style) and you have the perfect replacement for spinning IDE hard drives. Easy to install and assemble, they are an indispensable tool in my efforts to salvage old computers. You don't get all the bandwidth benefits of an SSD, but less heat, less noise, and virtually no seek latencies make for a small (supposed) speed boost.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Too stupid
