Well done but design issues

I used a cheap wooden polishing block but it scratched the edges of the metal so badly I decided to jump on a heavy steel polishing set. There is no doubt that this set is well made and will last forever. I've had this set for about six months now, so I'm ready to review it. As much as I want to praise the usefulness of this product, I can't because it has serious design flaws. Anyone who works with metal knows that there are degrees of dome depth that one wants to create. In other words, you don't always want a deep concave shape - sometimes you just want a slight bulge of metal. Now I realize that normally I don't want to that my metal has such a deep dome. It appears this block was designed to help the blacksmith turn flat metal into bowls. It's too deep, and it applies to all individual depressions. They're all too deep. I usually go back to my old block of wood when I want to create a nice basic metal dome shape. The best steel block design would be one large shallow recess and successively deeper recesses down the sides of the block. But there is no "starting point" - the shallowest dip is too deep. Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • So far so good
