1994 Miata Double Din Install

I purchased a 1984-7501 Metra kit to install a double din in my 94 Miata. First you will need a Dremel with a plastic disc cutter and a grinder. I used two sidebars labeled "1". The "B" tabs are the attachments on the car you want to use and cut off all the other tabs. On the other hand, you'll need to sand down pretty much all the other protrusions to make a flat board on which to mount the radio. Depending on what radio you have, you may need to play around with the holes. This sets the depth of how far the radio should protrude. The template I used only had two holes, but it was enough to attach the radio. Another part of this setup is that you should change the JDM center console headstone to 90-93 or the USDM 97 center console headstone to 94-96 due to the different size of the rectangular radio hole. If you don't do this, you will have clearance on all sides of the radio after installation. After you installed the radio and put in the new tombstone, I still had a gap at the bottom of my radio. The Metra comes with a plastic rod about 1/2 inch thick, perfect for filling the gap. I've used Q-Bond to permanently attach the plank to the tombstone, but there are others I've heard of that use double sided tape or screws for attachment. Once you've installed the bar, you'll either need to snip about 1/4" of the sides of the strip you just installed, or cut off the bottom of the two tabs you used to mount the radio, because there's a bit of interference. After you've approx After 2 hours of inhaling molten plastic you will have a nice double rumble in your Miata This is also a great opportunity to upgrade the center console as it has yet to be removed.
