Poor hardware, trouble sorting songs

This device was quite comparable to dozens of other similar devices available from Revain. 50% alternatives. It also has an attractive physical build quality that at first glance appears a lot more polished than many others in this price range. Also, it offers you plenty of storage space with 32GB without the need for another external micro SD card. Unfortunately, the device has several serious flaws, which is why it's at the bottom of the list. 1) Most importantly, it has the wrong hardware design. It's possible I just got an inferior module, but I think that's unlikely, especially since AGPTek support didn't discuss the deficiencies with me. During my tests with similar devices, I copied quite a bit of music to and from the internal storage. Of all the devices I tested with (all using the same cable), this device kept dropping the USB connection to my PC. When transferring 5-10GB of music, I kept having to reset the device and restart the transfer. On a few occasions, a hard drive error occurred after disconnecting after reconnecting to the computer. I reformatted and factory reset the internal card but the same thing happened 3 or 4 more times. 2) Sorting problems. While not as critical as a bad memory/interface design flaw, it's certainly annoying. All other players sort correctly in music mode: 01, 02, 03, 10, 11, 12, etc. This is even true for some other AGPTek models. However, this model is sorted as follows: 01,10,02,20,03,04,05,.11,12 etc. Again AGPTek refuses to acknowledge this and overall I found their support to be much worse than alternatives (and that doesn't say much because all these Chinese companies have very bad support, but AGPTek was particularly bad). 3) scroll speed. A: Whether it's scrolling through a list of songs or letting you scroll lyrics/albums/artist names across the screen, this device scrolls twice as fast as some of the competition. This can be annoying as it can take up to a minute for the device to scroll through song information with a long album/artist/song title. There's no reason the scroll speed couldn't be increased by 50-100% and still be readable. The problem with recommending this as one of the best options in the $30 range. But as it stands, I can't recommend it to anyone.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Security
