A few years ago I bought trail shoes for hiking hard or rocky trails in Southern California (sometimes I run, but I end up walking more). I've owned about 10 different shoes from different brands and the Peregrine (version 2 at the time) were my favorites, they supported my foot in all the right places while still being a minimalist shoe. Years later I've replaced my Peregrine 2s with Peregrine 8s which are now slightly tearing on my pinky so I need a new pair. but slightly more cushioning and stability, albeit heavier). I just got Peregrine 11 (Xodus 10 coming out tomorrow) and I'm loving it! The upper has a softer feel than the Peregrine 8, with a smooth, abrasion-resistant feel. I also VERY appreciate the subtle pebble black design - very COOL! I will still compare to Xodus but given the great design and improved cushioning I hope to keep the new Peregrine. So excited I had to leave a quick first impressions review. The only thing I would improve is the speed lacing system (I liked that on the Salomon shoes which I have but almost never wear as they are not that comfortable for long hikes/runs). UPDATE ON RECEIVING AND COMPARING TO EXODUS 10: Got Xodus 10 and they fit well. Bulky, but still softer and more comfortable than peregrine falcons. But the colors on the Xodus are too wild for my liking. It also revealed that Xodus 11 will be released on June 1st (spoke to Saucony). So I think it's best to ditch the Peregrine 11 for fast/light hikes and then opt for the Xodus 11 (all black, although I wish they were a more muted brown or gray to be unobtrusive and not so easy to show dust). / mud) for longer hikes. (Replaces the Merrell Moab 2 boots which are made for hiking but have never been as comfortable as even my Peregrine 8). As an aside, what I find really amazing about the Saucony's fit is how it puts supportive pressure in all the right places, like across the "root" of the toes - the toe box is wide enough that toes don't feel pinched , but the narrower height where the toes exit the main body of the foot eliminates awkward wobble. And just enough cushioning and responsiveness to make me feel more comfortable in their trail running shoes than other serious and trusted running shoes. Well done and highly recommended.
