Works great as a sanding or milling underlay for 1/3 the cost!

First of all I have to say that I didn't buy this article for the intended purpose! I asked the seller about the possibility of using this mat as a sanding or milling pad (to hold wood without clamps when sanding or edge milling). The seller specified the material (closed cell neoprene? rubber) thinking it might be suitable for this application. Decided to buy to check. I'm very glad I did! This pad is just about perfect for this application and is about 1/3 the price of a similar pad listed as a 'milling' or 'abrasive' pad. I say "almost" because some (not all) milling/sanding pads are made out of a silicone rubber compound that won't stick to wood glue, so I can use it as an adhesive backing as well (I think wood glue actually sticks). . . ). to that neoprene), although not all gaskets are silicone and silicone rubber gaskets of this size would be almost 5 times more expensive if you could find them. good, if a bit thick for my taste. But I haven't tried it and I don't intend to try it in my "already" soft toolbox :-). As a milling and sanding disc, however, this is first class and will save you a lot of money, and least of all in the short term. I hope this lasts as long as some of the cheaper route pads (those that aren't silicone) and if it doesn't I'll definitely be changing this review. If you're reading this review and it's more than 6 months since the publication date, note that this pad has lasted as long or longer than other pads!

Pros
  • practical article
Cons
  • so far so good
