Review on Little Giant LG MPAU33 Aluminum Multi Purpose by Marcus Chavva

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good price for a metal structure

At the current price of $75, this is a pretty good price for a 1/3 hp pump. in aluminum case. You can find plastic construction pumps for a few dollars less if that suits your purpose. But for me, unless it's a permanent submersible, I prefer aluminum. It feeds from the bottom, up to 1/4 inch. There is only a plastic screen as a privacy screen, no filter. Do not use with corrosive substances or dirt. You can put the pump in a makeshift filter if there are leaves or debris in the water. It CANNOT be used for drinking water or for a pond. It is compact and lightweight and easy to move. It's not designed for continuous use, but you can use it all day without overheating. The head is a standard garden hose size, if you need to convert it to something else adapters are available. I recommend a brass quick connector so you don't have to unscrew/unscrew the hose every time. There are no settings or switches, simply turn on and off by plugging in and unplugging. If you need a float switch, you'll have to add one or make an impromptu one. No primer required. You can unscrew the plastic grid at the bottom to clean the impeller. But there are no spare parts for this pump - once the impeller wears out or the motor burns out (too much dirt, running dry etc.) it will need to be replaced unless you are capable of major service. It seems durable and well built. That's 350 watts. It comes with a 10ft power cord which I wish was longer just to keep the plug out of the water. My bottom line: My local harbor style discount hardware store has a 1/3 HP Drummond construction pump. 80 dollars with almost the same characteristics, but plastic without a handle has leaked from the box. The Drummond's only advantage was that it came with a 25-foot cable instead of a 10-foot cable. But the little giant is better in every other way.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
