Our 3 year old LOVES these shoes and has lived in them all summer. With the back strap on top, he could easily put them on alone with or without socks. When we did something more strenuous, we put on the back strap that he needed help with. They didn't work well for water shoes as they slipped off easily but they floated which helped. He has worn them seriously every day for the last 3 months and they are like new except now they have dirt on them but they wash and dry easily because they are all plastic.
