One of the bosses I worked for 15 years ago had one of the first USB drives while he was in the IT department on a contract basis. He paid over $200 for it and I think it was half a gig. Now it's been around 18-20 years since they came out and for less than a tenth the price you get almost 100x the speed and over 100x the storage capacity. The technology is amazing. Although it was originally more of a specialty item, he said it was really worth it since it helped him with something as handy as taking software tools with him to fix or restore computers. Nowadays there is also such a use, but it can store a decent backup or a large chunk of important data. In this day and age of ransomware and other malware, it's good to have some protection. Also useful for transferring game data or sharing video or music files with friends at school. highlighted.
