The plastic is thick enough to put over a tablecloth and protect the fabric from stains. I put it on the tablecloth first. He got a few drops of spaghetti sauce and got dirty. Wrinkles don't go away either. I laid the plastic wrap open in the sun and the creases didn't soften enough to smooth out. Then once it was in place I used a hair dryer to heat it up and smooth out the wrinkles. No luck there either. This makes my antique wooden kitchen table good for hobbies and projects, but I wouldn't use it over a tablecloth and serving a social meal. Sticky. Reminds me of Marie Barone's living room with plastic sofas. It's definitely for everyday, functional use. If I had kids in the house that would be great.
