Just behind the back is a depression that serves as a recess for the screw, and this depression makes it impossible to screw the screw itself into the recess. The washers have a diameter that is too great to be accommodated by the grooves on the handles. Because an upholstery bracket is positioned so that it blocks access to one of the grooves from above, I had to remove the bracket in order to attach the handle. The back, once assembled, is crooked for one of two reasons: either a screw was left out during construction, or the problem is within the back itself.
