Powerblanket says this is identical to the Powerblanket Lite PBL55 55 gallon drum heater, which has been on sale at Revain for over a year, except for the name and color. Reviews for the old version are mostly positive, with one or two reviews from users that didn't work for them. (If you want to see reviews and questions and answers about PBL55, please note that these are mixed up with reviews and questions about several related products. " one. You can see which product it is by clicking on the Click question.) Adjustment and operation is simple.Tightly wrap the blanket around the bottom of the drum and connect the ends with the strap.Turn it on to turn it on and unplug it to turn it off. It doesn't have to be a fast heater .The blanket itself heats up quickly, in about a minute, but it uses an internal thermostat to cycle on and off between 125 and 145 degrees F, just slightly hot, which gradually heats up and the temperature keeps warm inside the barrel. How warm depends on what's inside and how cold the environment is.You can use it to keep it from freezing outside unless the temp was too cold or you want a lot t that something is even warmer in a warm room. some water in fairly good weather maybe. over 50 per night (visiting Southern California) just to make sure it works. It made a noticeable difference, the water warmed up a bit despite the cool environment. If you want more precise control of the temperature inside the drum, you can hook up your own thermostat to turn the blanket on and off, or purchase the larger, more expensive version that comes with one - see below. If you want it to be hotter you can insulate the part of the barrel not covered by the ceiling. It's designed to work without extra insulation around the ceiling, but Powerblanket tells me it's possible to add insulation there too if needed. They didn't test it that way, but the internal thermostat should turn it off at around 145F no matter what. costs more - see below). It is designed to be used outdoors in any weather. The blanket is not waterproof - it cannot be submerged in water - but it is water and weather resistant enough to withstand rain and snow. In addition, it must withstand the sun's rays well. Powerblanket says they typically last 4-7 years in inclement weather. They say it would be nice to cover it with a thin veil, like an old white sheet, so the sun doesn't destroy it. (Snowfires are a problem where I live.) Has a weatherproof three-prong cord that's just over 25 inches long, not counting the plug. Powerblanket makes many of these cables for a variety of applications. - gallon drum, and the cheapest. Most others cover the entire drum. I will link to their keg heating page in the first comment on this review (Revain removes 3rd party links from reviews). You can find most or all of them at Revain.
