Watch out for AFCI circuit breakers tripping.

I was at a friend's house trying to identify the switch that powered the socket in the bedroom. When I plugged in the transmitter, the UPS in the room started beeping like there was a power outage in the room. I tried turning on a light plugged into a different outlet to make sure I had just lost power throughout the room. The light wouldn't come on, so I went to the panel in the garage and saw that one of the AFCI switches was in the off (middle) position. So I turned it off and on again and it worked right away. I went back into the bedroom to put the transmitter away and then went outside to reset the AFCI circuit breaker. breaker reset. Therefore, this Ideal 61-534 Digital Circuit Breaker Identifier trips AFCI circuit breakers. This type of circuit breaker is required in bedrooms per NEC 2011 Article 210.12 Arc Fault Protection. I don't like it because AFCIs will be in all new homes. One bedroom house built since 2008 has an AFCI circuit breaker. That this device disables these switches is very inconvenient. If someone has something in the bedroom, e.g. B. a computer that can't be turned off and I plug this device in * BOOM * all Unsaved work on this computer is gone. This is not good. But on the other hand I really like this device. I got other devices to identify CBs with an accuracy of 2 CB. Well, that's not good. So I heard good things about it and bought it. I am happy with them. It finds all the switches correctly on the first pass. I can't give it 5 starts as it trips the AFCI circuit breakers.

Pros
  • RECEIVER AUTO SHUTDOWN: The receiver turns off automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity. Low battery detection ensures the device is always charged and ready to go. When the battery voltage is below 7.3 volts, the receiver will beep 3 times and turn off.
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
