We love the look of this litter box. We live in an apartment and there is no room for a tray. We have two cats and they both took to this tray straight away. We have a trash mat outside the hole because they track quite a bit of debris outside the hole. We use natural pine filler. Our cats won't leave grass alone. I had to throw away the weed. Then they wanted to jump on the box and play with the artificial plant. We used a spray to stop the plants from chewing and after a week they stopped jumping up. We replaced the grass with river rocks. This keeps the cats from bursting the carbon filters while still allowing air to flow through the filter screens. The only reason I didn't give this product 5 stars is because I think it should have come with something other than weed to cover the filter. We use Petmate Cleanstep carbon filters. they are round This tray really needs a donut shaped filter, but we cut these circles into four wedges and they fit perfectly. The filter grates are shaped like four wedges and are the perfect size. I've read several reviews where people have complained that the top is difficult to mate with the bottom. We totally disagree. It only takes a second. We don't use a tray liner, but it doesn't get messy much. After emptying the box, I rarely see leftovers. I go ahead and just wipe down the inside with pre-packaged wipes.
