Don't be surprised how small the box will be when they arrive! Because it's foam, they shrink and then "vent" when you open the box. It is recommended to let them acclimate for about a day, but after a few hours they will be almost full size. We waited all day and then installed them in our cot. They slip under the sheet fairly easily and stay in place for the most part. One side of the lid has a slightly grippy texture that supposedly helps it stay in place. And depending on how much activity your child gives them, they mostly do. A couple of times when we go in to check on our little one the bumper slips a bit and needs adjustment. Maybe we just need to make sure the sheet is denser? But for the most part, we find that our child, whose limbs used to slide off the edge of the bed, is now staying a little more reserved.
