Faulty phone in just 4.5 months of use

I am very unhappy with Uniden's one year warranty. In just 4 1/2 months of use our phone stopped charging and showed no sign of life when placed on the base. The base station charge light came on briefly, blinked a few times, and then went off. I've reinstalled the outlet, power adapter, and battery connector, but to no avail. Things don't go well and there are guarantees for that - replacement of a faulty product. So I called Uniden support with no email response regarding my issue. They thought the problem was most likely the battery and suggested checking it on site. I was also told that the battery was out of warranty. Then I was told that if it was a phone I would have to pay $10 to get a replacement. It's not much of a guarantee if you have to pay for a dedicated battery and phone. I am planning to replace this cordless phone with another brand. The old Uniden cordless phone that this phone replaced worked flawlessly for years and was still working when we handed it over. All I ever had to do was replace the battery after about 4 or 5 years of use.
