When you buy this, you also buy a power adapter!

If you're considering this product for 2020 and beyond, you're probably looking to convert some old audio cassettes you have around the house. I found a whole stack at my mom's house and agreed to help her convert them. I've looked at a few of these devices that you plug a flash drive into and it automatically converts the tape to a file, which would be ideal, but they all got such bad reviews that I thought I'd be better off choosing this one Buy product instead and I'll do the transformation myself. I chose this product because it has a line out port which you need for the best conversion quality. The line out connector ignores the volume control, so you can record a tape at the original audio level it was recorded at and adjust it later if needed. You can connect the line out of this unit to your computer's mic in, or use a dedicated recording device, which I did since I have one, but my computer would work just as well. Keep in mind that on a modern Mac or PC that has the headphone/mic jack combined into a single port, you will need a TRRS converter, but it's cheap and easy to find. The #1 tip I can give to anyone who wants to use this device to convert tapes is to buy an AC adapter (power cord) for it. It doesn't come with it and I didn't think it mattered running on AA batteries, but I got all sorts of crazy speed inconsistencies from it. I was expecting it to slow down when the batteries were running low, but basically it's constantly slowing down from the moment you put in new batteries when they run out. This is totally inappropriate. I wanted to return the item until I bought the power adapter and all my issues were resolved. That being said, as far as I can tell, they don't actually sell a power adapter, but it says right on the unit that it requires 3V DC, so I bought this universal adapter hoping one of the heads would fit: https: / /www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZWU5L0CI. It works great and is quite cheap. It's also nice to have an AC adapter next time I need an AC adapter as it supports so many different voltages and connectors. Another complaint I have is the lack of a rewind button. One of the other reviewers said they didn't feel like it bothered them, but it did, and I totally agree. I didn't think it mattered, but having to flip the tape and fast-forward only to rewind the other side is really annoying, not to mention that fast-forward is so damn slow you can just play . Cassette! The sound quality was excellent, I think as excellent as these tapes have ever been. I don't convert music, and neither should you (unless it's your own band, better versions are available on literally every other platform), but cassettes with recorded vocals. It's nice to have memories, especially of some relatives who are no longer with us. In general, this is a cheap product, but you will not find an expensive cassette player in 2020. If that's what you're looking for I'd try eBay, but if you're just converting some old cassette tapes or maybe just need to see what's on them before throwing them away, this product is great.
