Works but doesn't leave charger plugged in

Three screens work on my wife's Macbook Air. It broke after day one, but Revain quickly replaced it. I think it broke because we left the charger plugged in and possibly static electricity built up and fried the device. The new block works great. When my wife is done with the docking station, she flips the switch on the surge protector to turn everything off. Since then no problems.
