My dog loves it but he is a princess and loves beds in general. The top would stay up when she stopped sleeping on it. Knowing my dog likes to dig, I figured he would love this "cave". Not correct. The top is actually too high, if she wants to sleep under something she wants it to lie on top of her like a blanket. Basically she just sleeps on top of it and it's no different than any other bed. Sometimes I open the lid and it goes in a bit and then lowers the lid on purpose. A few details. The pillow inside comes out and the bottom is maroon just like the outside. The burgundy fabric is quite dense and durable, not the softest of fabrics but perhaps similar to a sofa cover. The brown fabric is much softer, just slightly fluffy. But it's not enough for my dog, who LOVES plush fabrics. Also, I washed it MANY times because I was battling fleas. (Finally gone, Cheers! For fleas, google the borax method and also use Capstar.) He was washed about 3 times a week. and since it happened so often I didn't want to wait for it to dry so I decided to use the dryer on low to medium heat. I was mainly concerned about the floor - under the pillow is just black plastic/rubber. I thought it might melt in the dryer. But no problem. In fact, I may have accidentally dried it over high heat once, but I'll be careful not to do it again. However, the last time we went to the pet store, my dog chose his own bed. We walked past the beds and suddenly she jumped into one of the lower bunk beds. It's pure plush with thick soft sides. He even came with a cat blanket (about 2 square feet). Normally I wouldn't buy her anything spontaneously. but it was only $16 (clearance). So now she has both beds. And for the test, I put them side by side for a couple of weeks to see which one she prefers. To be honest she will sleep in one of them for a few hours and then switch! So Armarkat is not wasted.
