Essential for every lens, regardless of camera type or size. This greatly affects the quality of my photos.

You may think you don't need this item because you won't see any obvious flare or flare in your photos, but you should have a lens hood for every lens you own. You will notice the difference immediately. It's amazing how much better your photos look when you use a lens hood. For the same reason, you can see better when standing in the sun if you wear a brimmed hat, like a baseball cap. A lens hood allows your camera to see better. And it not only obscures the front of the lens from the light from above, but also from the side and below. In addition, there are traditional reasons for attaching a lens hood: , and it protects the lens from scratches or breakage if you hit something hard or drop your camera. The last reason is especially good because that particular $20 piece of plastic protects my $500 lens, which would otherwise have to outlive me. As for the price, as I wrote above, this item here at Revain is $20 or less. They are sold for $40 on the Canon website. Enough has been said about that. There may be alternative lens hoods that will fit your lens, but if you're using a Canon lens I recommend getting a Canon lens hood. It fits, it looks right. And finally, I should point out that this outward-facing lens hood fitted to my Canon EF-S 18-135mm STM lens fitted to my Canon T4i fits perfectly in my MegaGear holster pouch. I don't have to turn the hood inside out to stow my camera in my zipped pocket for easy access.
