Excellent value for money, best compact camera

I'm an avid Canon SLR camera user, I have several L lenses in addition I needed a compact digital camera to replace the outdated one Finepix of my wife. Super compact, but not perfect. Here's the synopsis: + Image Stabilization for unsteady hands + Excellent sensor low-light processing to avoid shaky photos at less than optimal settings + Decent non-digital zoom distance (although it also has digital zoom) + Build quality (anodized metal) + Quality/image sharpness + Fast image processing/tracking for a compact device + Auto setup mode does a decent job - good for casual camera users + Affordable colors - very important for a woman; Don't forget to buy the matching case - Awkward interface, but that's common with compact devices - Zoom control - Annoying ring around the shutter button - USB connection can be annoying; The camera sidebar tends to get in the way. Dust cover seems cheap. Battery life is limited (read other reviews) - another Li-Ion cell might be a good idea. Consider an extra battery a vacation must-have. - HD video is great, but camera captures zoom audio (probably IS). To be clear, I bought it as a camera, not a camcorder. Video is handy, but producers still need to improve photos and videos a bit. The Zoom/IS tone detracts significantly from the aspect of the video. I have the Japanese made version (yes!) and it has worked great for over 2 weeks. My old Finepix died within a month, was returned to Fuji under warranty and worked flawlessly for years after that, in case that matters.
