First off, this is a very nice hat. The quality of the materials and the workmanship are first rate. Nothing loose or flimsy about this hat, so it should last for quite a while.I've worn it outside in the evening for about a week now, and it's quite comfortable, keeping my head warm during these December walks. I haven't had to use the ear flaps yet, but of course I've tried them, and they not only stay in place of my neck and ears, but the soft material gives an extra added layer of comfort. Very nice indeed.As to size. I measured my head using a flexible tape, and came up with varying numbers, averaging around 22 1/2, so I decided on the LARGE size. It's possible that a medium would have fit me better, as the large almost slipped down over my ears, however, I've found from experience that it's easy to size a hat down a bit by adding a little fabric in the headband, and that's just what I did, and now it fits perfectly.I can easily recommend this hat. I would have liked a wider choice of colors, maybe brown or tan, but the black one I got is comfortable and well made, so I'm a happy camper.
