Review on ๐ŸŽต Black Micca OriGain 50W x 2 Compact Stereo Integrated Amplifier by Sarah Blough

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great sound, compact, durable body, low power consumption

Many other reviewers have commented on the excellent sound quality and I agree. To me it sounds as good as my old 500 watt per channel Class A/B Carver amp. I can't find any flaws in the quality of the sound produced. It's completely silent in quiet portions of an audio program and has enough power for near-field listening. It goes well with Micca RB42 bookshelf speakers and some old KLH speakers I have. . Other amps I've bought used a grounded power supply. Connecting the analog audio input of a grounded amplifier to a grounded audio source (such as a computer with a grounded power supply) introduces ground loop noise into the audio. Another amp I have suffers from this problem when connected to my computer (making the sound card appear loud or of poor quality), but OriGain connected to the same computer produces a perfectly clear one in quiet places Sounded with dead silence. I like this amp for its small size, minimalist design and low power consumption. The case is solid, attractive and unobtrusive. The speaker terminals are rugged and accept wires up to 14 gauge with a screw terminal or larger with banana plugs. Due to its efficiency, it only gets slightly warmer than the surrounding area and there is no noticeable change in temperature even after prolonged listening at the highest volumes that I find comfortable. By measuring with a wattmeter, I found that the amplifier and the power supply consumed 3.82 watts with a quiet sound. Power consumption only increases by a few tenths of a watt when switched to moderately loud near-field listening levels. In order to increase the power consumption by at least one watt, the volume has to be turned up so much that it becomes a bit uncomfortable to sit next to the speakers. When the switch on the amplifier is off, the included 24V 4.75A power supply with efficiency level VI consumes 0.33W. The build quality is excellent. Since the case has no vents and generates almost no heat, I assume the lifespan will be excellent, or at least not limited by dust build-up or heat stress. Written in clear correct English, the manual is of an easy-to-read size and includes helpful specifications and diagrams. The included audio cable is also of decent quality. While there are cheaper TPA3116D2 based amps out there, I don't regret spending a little more for the quality of this product and the included power supply and cable.

Pros
  • Affordability
Cons
  • Really don't like it, it's just great
