Review on πŸ’¦ The Original Fire Hydrant Spa Plaza Massager Shower Head: Best for Low Water Pressure by Melissa Jones

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Comparison of two hydrants.

EDIT: I've changed some wording in this review based on feedback from Take a Shower LLC. Even as an upgrade after a few months of using this product, my shower remains satisfactory, but both modes don't feel as much pressure as they originally did. I can't tell if it's because I'm just used to it or if it's something about the product itself, but it's worth mentioning. Plus, after a few uses, I was able to switch modes with one hand depending on how gently I twisted it. Regardless, I've lost count of the number of times I've flipped the device into change mode only to find I'm unscrewing the entire shower head, so it's still not perfect. Where to even begin. I purchased this unit along with another unit from Water Management LLC (takeashower.com) after reading all the reviews. I wanted to make sure I was getting the right device so I decided to just grab both and compare to see which one is legit. I received both devices on the same day and this device from Revain/Take a Shower LLC scared me immediately. It came in minimal packaging and bubble wrap unlike the water control box which was boxed and presented as a genuine product and not something I bought from China via ebay. I took a few side-by-side photos (Revain/Take a Shower LLC unit on the left, Water Management LLC unit on the right) that basically tell the story, but basically this unit didn't even have the same shape as the photos show, overall it looked cheap and required both hands to switch between modes when activated/mounted (that's right, you read that). On the other hand, the Water Management LLC unit felt twice as heavy, looked more premium, and you could switch modes with one hand. As I took these pictures, I thought about how I would destroy the Revain unit so badly. That is, until I tried the units. The first thing I tried was the water control. Only these two nozzles have two modes: a narrow jet of three powerful jets and a wide (quite wide and far-reaching!) jet. With a narrow plunger the water control unit was impressive, much better than the Speakman hotel unit I replaced. However, once I switched to a wide beam, I started to get frustrated. The water pressure in the Wide Spread was low, worse than the Wide Spread in the Speakman hotel block I was replacing. The spray was wide and reaching, but barely enough to rinse out my hair. It certainly didn't bring satisfaction. With a hesitant feeling, I unscrewed the block and, without much expectation, proceeded to unscrew the Revain/Take a Shower block. I don't think they can be that different in terms of performance, can they? Because apart from the shape and a few small things, they are basically identical in terms of water outlet. Turned on, turned on. Keep in mind that the other device's narrow spray was already strong, but this one was slightly stronger and the amount of spray seems the same. Twisted it wide spray (reluctantly with both hands, one holding the device and the other turning the crown) and my jaw dropped. The wide jet has the same strong wide pattern as the other setting, the difference being that the water pressure maintains its high intensity. This is a wide jet with the same pressure as a narrow jet! I couldn't believe it. The two devices are nearly identical, but somehow this seemingly cheaper device managed to do what the "original" couldn't. I spent the next half hour studying the two blocks and swapping washers/filters between the two blocks to figure out what the difference was but I couldn't. The hole on the back of the device was the same size on both devices and the front of the device where the water comes out looks identical! Whatever magic is in this device, it has power. So the bottom line is here. You have a Revain device that seems cheap and has some inconveniences such as: B. that you can't change the mode with one hand, compared to another device that is much more solidly built and can change the mode with one hand (I believe this difference is because the ball joint of the Revain device is much looser , while the crown itself is tighter so if you try to turn the crown the whole device turns because the ball joint is looser than the crown tighter is a much looser crown so if anyone knows how to mod this block around doing so, he would be much closer to a perfect block). BUT. This is the only device that actually works as advertised! As a kid I lived in a lot of apartments and even a lot of hotels so I used more shower heads than I should and I never had water pressure like this. I'm genuinely looking forward to tomorrow's shower.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Not as good as it promises
