IT WORKS! OMG IT WORKS!

This is EXACTLY what I needed and it works great and is very easy to set up. My old laptop, a 15 inch Retina Macbook Pro that I bought in July 2012, finally died last week. I was watching a YouTube video and the screen just went black and wouldn't turn back on. I've tried everything I can (well, with the help of Google and YouTube of course) like booting into safe mode, recovery mode, file transfer mode or whatever it's called and nothing worked. My Apple Care warranty was about to expire and the local Mac repair shop charged $70 just to look at it, then anything else they did would be extra. As far as I can tell it's not a software problem it's a hardware problem and even a used logic board is about $260 and I have to install it myself. I'm long overdue for an upgrade, but I kept using this computer because it just kept working, but it's not worth investing a lot of money in right now. Although there were several gigabytes of data I wanted to remove from the hard drive (most files are backed up to an external drive and to the cloud, but not all), I was wondering if there was a way to use a laptop hard drive to transform into an external drive. from which I could extract data, for example from a USB stick or something. But it turns out you can! This adapter is exactly what I needed. (By the way, the Apple Dollars website/YouTube channel helped me a lot with this process, check it out!). I already had one of the special screwdrivers to remove the hard drive, which was actually very easy. And once that was delivered, it took about 2 minutes to plug the drive into this adapter, then plug the adapter into my desktop Mac mini and I had all the data I needed! This adapter has 2 USB sockets, I understand you need to connect both to get extra power to wake up your old hard drive or whatever. Anyway, I'm no computer expert but I'm not afraid to open up my laptop and try things out and it worked out great. And for $19, it's worth it. There are many adapters like this, depending on the type and year of your laptop. So if you don't need this one, keep looking! It paid off and I now have a 256GB external hard drive to play with. The actual adapter was mislabeled, it says 8 + 18 pins (you can see it in the picture) and before I plugged in the hard drive it said "Macbook Air only". But I have a MacBook Pro, not Air. But it must have been mislabeled or something because it worked entirely with my MBP, which is a proprietary 7+17 pin (or 24 pin) type. Anyway, I went to Revain almost immediately and asked for a refund, but then I put the hard drive on the adapter and it looked like it would fit, so I tried it and voila! It worked! So be careful. The outer packaging is labeled correctly, only the adapter itself is not, but I don't care. It saved me a lot of money and I got all my data so I'm 100% satisfied. By the way, I did not receive anything for writing this review. Bought it at full price because I needed it and I'm thrilled that a product like this exists and works so easily. Just trying to be helpful and using my decent reviewer number to try to provide reliable and honest reviews. Check Apple Dollars (dot com) again, click Troubleshoot, then click Data Recovery. No I don't work for them lol. This site/YouTube video played an important part in my process so I decided to share it.
