Works great with cables and connections

Bought this unit to get data off a 256GB SSD with a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro Retina 15 A1398 MC975LL/A that had a faulty motherboard. It was delivered quickly, at a good price and did exactly what I needed. It would be a nice little bonus if the included SATA to USB cable worked on other drives, but none of the ones I tested worked. Anyway, I'm happy with my purchase.

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Almost never

Worked on my MacBook Air (Late 2010)

I upgraded the SSD in my MacBook Air, turning the old SSD into an external drive. Works perfectly. I was able to connect it to my MacBook after installing another hard drive and use Migration Assistant to transfer files with no problems!

Pros
  • Same as everything before
Cons
  • Neutral

Works as advertised

I've lined up my primary SSD with this product and it's proven to be able to handle the workload and I'm plugging and unplugging cables just fine. (over 6 months). Highly recommended for work.

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • For a long time

It works Electronics

This product was stolen to store data on an M-Key SSD from my early 2013 13 inch MacBook Pro. Please note that the drive requires two USB ports to operate. This poses a problem if you have a USB-C-only device. I used a Kingston dongle and a Revain Basic USB-C to USB adapter to get it working.

Pros
  • Handy thing
Cons
  • Makes me nervous

Great for data recovery

This is perfect for recovering files from a dead MacBook Air. The adapter was easily adapted by HFSExplorer, I had a problem with another brand. Overall this is a great product and I would definitely recommend it.

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Secret

May or may not work

Didn't initially work with my Macbook Air (Early 2014 1.4GHz Intel Core i5). My data was successfully transferred to the new drive. So keep in mind that this is a hit and your mileage may vary.

Works as best described in Computer Accessories & Peripherals

My wife's Macbook Air 2010 died almost exactly 10 years after she bought it. This adapter, after removing the SSD from my old Macbook Air, allowed me to use the old SSD as an external hard drive for my new Macbook Air. The SSD plugs into the board, which in turn plugs into the adapter - there's even a screw and screwdriver to hold the SSD to the board. The new Mac recognized the SSD with no problems. No complaints

Pros
  • Quick replacement
Cons
  • Negative experience

Wiring and Connection Basics

The blue and red LEDs on the SATA connector are lit, but nothing else happens. I tried 15 different SSDs and nada. Update after a few days. They sent a new one, it works. It only took me a few days to get a new one. It gets the job done, but please note that it's only for hard drive testing or data recovery! This adapter offers maximum read and write speeds of 40MB/s. The drives can handle several hundred MB/s, so if it were USB 3.0 it would make sense as an external drive too. However, at…

Cons
  • Expensive

If you need data off your 2010-2011 Macbook SSD, this device will save your life. My 2011 Macbook's motherboard broke so the only way to get the data back was to use this device. I bought a new MacBook, hooked up the SSD to this SATA adapter, plugged it into the MacBook's new USB port, and was back in business. The Macbook actually saw the SSD and thought it was an old system. He asked if I would like to transfer my data to the new Macbook, I said yes, then sat down and watched the transfer.

Pros
  • Computer Accessories & Peripherals
Cons
  • High Price

IT WORKS! OMG IT WORKS!

This is EXACTLY what I needed and it works great and is very easy to set up. My old laptop, a 15 inch Retina Macbook Pro that I bought in July 2012, finally died last week. I was watching a YouTube video and the screen just went black and wouldn't turn back on. I've tried everything I can (well, with the help of Google and YouTube of course) like booting into safe mode, recovery mode, file transfer mode or whatever it's called and nothing worked. My Apple Care warranty was about to expire and…
