I've used a retractable mic arm to hold my Shure SM58 for quite a while, but I always found the arm ended up in my frame and it was relatively large , even when folded was the side. So I bought this microphone stand. It is solidly built and measures 9 to 13.5 inches from the table to the center of the mic mount. I found a higher number to be appropriate for my height as the mic is right at mouth level when tilted up. See photo. All parts are metal and the base is weighted. I wish the base was a little heavier, but it's still pretty resilient to vibration and unintentional movement around the table. The package includes the mount shown in the photo, plus a shock absorber with pop filter microphones for vertical use. The only other downside is the angle adjustment with a Phillips screw instead of a thumbscrew, making adjustment a little fiddly as you have to keep a screwdriver handy. I replaced the Phillips head with a thumbscrew from an extension. Overall I like this mic stand and would recommend it.
