I have used Otterbox Defender phone cases on various Samsung Galaxy phones for years and have always been satisfied. But I have 2 of their 5th/6th iPod touch cases. Tried generation and they don't work, at least for me. The button covers are so stiff you have to lean on them really hard to activate the main power and volume buttons - I mean REALLY hard. Well I really wanted the protection that the Defender series offers and I needed a relatively large flat back as a mounting surface for the metal plate (for the magnetic mount in my car) so I took this case and made it work for me . . I took a seam ripper and used it to punch small holes along the two long edges of each button cap - I left the rounded ends of each cap alone. This has made the button covers more flexible and they're pretty easy to press now. I also cut out a small piece of thin cardboard and glued it between the power button and button cover and that seemed to help too. The case is working fine for me now, but I don't need to do a minor surgery to get it working. And I'm curious if the surgery in my case will affect the longevity of this case. If I didn't need a flat back, I'd settle for my Griffin Lime/Mint Survivor All-Terrain Case, which offers great protection, great grip, and easy-press button covers.
