Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not bad, but with line of sight and software compatibility issues

I bought the aarooGo remote because I really don't like the touchpad feature on the Apple TV remote and the remote app My phone doesn't allow volume control. When I took the aarooGo remote out of the box, I noticed that it looked very similar to the Revain Fire TV remote. The layout of the keys is similar and they feel almost the same in the hand. The weight is also comparable to the built-in batteries. When pressed, the buttons click louder than most remotes, but I don't find that annoying. So far, so good. The aarooGo remote synced automatically with my Apple TV 4K, which was another plus. However, once I started using the remote, I realized almost immediately that I was going to have trouble setting up my entertainment center. The arrooGo remote requires line of sight, so I had to move my Apple TV out the entertainment center window. The window rejected the IF signal from the remote control. It was at this point that I realized how naturally I took my Apple TV remote's Bluetooth functionality for granted. However, I wanted to try the arrooGo remote control, so I installed my Apple TV on my entertainment center. The synchronization of the arrooGo remote with other devices was successful or unsuccessful. Let me start by saying that the timing instructions are well detailed and easy to follow. In order to sync with other devices, the arooGo remote needs to "talk" to the remotes on those devices. However, the arrooGo can only communicate with other remote controls if they use the IF frequency. Many modern consoles no longer use IF frequencies, so syncing doesn't work. Unfortunately, I ran into this problem when trying to sync with a Samsung soundbar. I didn't need to sync with my Sony TV as my Apple TV manages the TV's power supply. However, I have read several reviews of Sony TVs not syncing with the aarooGo remote. So I decided to return the aarooGo remote control. Because (1) it required perfect line of sight, and (2) it didn't sync with my soundbar, I didn't find it comfortable to use. I really wish this would work, but I found the Apple TV remote to be better despite the touch bar design.
