Review on Kensington Multi-Display Adapter with DisplayLink - USB 3.0 (K33974AM) in Black by Steve Modesto

Great for my use case - make sure you know what to expect

Works fine on my Macbook Pro. I had an old USB 2 version of this thing, it's obviously the USB 3 version. My MBP 13" can only drive two monitors, so my third monitor is connected via a Kensington adapter at 1920 x 1080. It's great for static and slow-changing windows. It's a little choppy for watching videos, but could be for the occasional one Use may be fine. The mouse around the 3rd monitor is quite choppy - I couldn't work on a presentation on the 3rd monitor for example. It's been a few years since I've used the USB 2 version but it seems not to be much faster - for those with the USB 2 version, you can stick with it.The main use case for me is adding a monitor that I can support windows that I like to control, email, skype , and help docs.everything what I need for active work is pulled onto my first or second monitor where everything runs at full speed Drivers, one for "Windows & Mac" and one for Mac only rsioning i st confusing, only use a Mac. If you download another one you will get a zip archive with setup.exe so you won't be able to run it. Another provides a standard Mac dmg file. My driver refused to install because it said a newer version was already installed. I already have a LandingZone dock (provided by work) that required me to install a DisplayLink adapter. So it's probably not a problem, it's just that the Kensington drivers are behind the latest ones. For a product like this I'm fine with all stable drivers as long as there are no crashes/bugs so no problem here. If you're doing something particularly out of the ordinary, this can be a problem. (I remember downloading and installing drivers from DisplayLink on the USB 2 version - that was years ago, but someone had a great review/response on the Amazon USB 2 page that was helpful.) If anyone quick have to ask for a video about the backlog and i will post something.

Pros

Cons
  • Security
