The software in this product is a bad joke

I was looking for a simple, reliable printer and scanner to work at home and found this printer to be a very affordable option. If I can get it to work, it's doing the right job. But from the start I had to spend hours installing/configuring, first alone and then multiple phone calls (many of which dropped or disconnected midway through the conversation) with Xerox Technical Support and I was never able to get the WorkCentre 3215 to connect with my new Dell XPS13 and my old MacBook Pro. After about a fourth unsuccessful attempt to get help with this, I was finally routed to someone at Software Support Level 2 who was able to troubleshoot installation and wireless issues by logging into my computer remotely. However, two months later, I continue to have intermittent connectivity issues, which sometimes are resolved by restarting my computer (as suggested during another tech support call), and sometimes not. Two days ago (out of hours) I tried to scan to my computer and got a "cannot connect" message. I restarted both my computer and the printer (which by the way was almost supposed to be "forced" - just pressing and releasing the power button doesn't turn it off) and couldn't get the scanner function to work. I then tried connecting to my computer with a USB cable and still got the same error message. This morning I spent about 15 minutes with Xerox on the line, the call hung up, called back again, and then as I started to troubleshoot the issue with them I found that - surprise! - The scanner works again. So if you like the unpredictability and frustration of printing or scanning, and if you like automated phone systems and bad music, then by all means go for it.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • There are some nuances
