Review on JOROTO Pedals Included Suitable Exercise by Andrew Grant

These (affordable) pedals make cycling at home so much better!

Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic I have been looking for ways to improve my fitness at home. I started cycling about 5 months ago and ordered a Joroto X2 bike so I can track the Peloton digital app (there are great blogs/YouTube videos that teach you how to hack a Peloton yourself to to get started in an easy and affordable way). . In short, most tutorials recommend getting an inexpensive bike (magnetic resistance, belt drive), adding a cadence monitor (Wahoo Cadence Monitor, $30), and swapping out pedals for SPD pedals/shoes. Since my budget was tight, I decided to start with just a spinning bike and a cadence sensor and wait to upgrade the pedals/shoes. I used the bike regularly for 4 months and then decided it was time to upgrade it. I looked at cleat/pedal types and settled on the 2-bolt SPD system as the cheapest and most accessible system (Peloton uses a 3-bolt Look/Delta system). I live with two other medical students and share a bike with my roommates. One is an avid biker and the other is a newcomer to spinning. I first ordered the Joroto Hybrid SPD/Toe Cage/Foot Platform Pedal variant (black). It was GREAT and a huge improvement - the pedal was flatter and taller which made riding with the toe cage more comfortable and safer. The advantage of the hybrid system was that a roommate could continue to use the toe clips without having to buy a shoe clip and SPD spikes right away. SPD shoes can be a little pricey to buy, and I didn't want her to be locked out (or having to switch pedals every time she rides a bike). -Day. It seems much safer and being active during the 'downstroke' and 'upstroke' is a HUGE benefit. I'm still working on my riding technique, but it's much easier to maintain higher cadence intervals (100-120 rpm cadence) during the peloton. What drew me to these pedals was that I raved about their benefits. SPD shoes, and my neighbor finally gave in and ordered a clip on her shoes! Knowing their shoes are on the way and we'll all be having mules soon, I've decided to switch back to those little mules! To be honest, my original motivation was THAT THE BIKE DOES A LOT BETTER! I think they make my $400 bike a lot more attractive/expensive. Looks aside - there are some real upgrade benefits! which van comes with a hybrid). My roommate (an avid biker) loved the spring/control advantage to being able to adjust how easy it was to snap in and out. - I noticed that being able to snap on either side of the pedals is really nice. I'll also say that because the pedal is smaller, it's a lot easier to line up and secure successfully on the first try! Additional Benefits: * It comes with a set of Spikes SPD = $10-$15 savings! (My roommate, an aspiring biker, didn't order the cleats separately from her SPD shoes, so she was able to use this set and start cycling right away!) Includes all the tools to install and adjust the pedals. (EASY and FAST!)* Affordable (and looks like the price has even come down a bit since I ordered it!) IN SUMMARY: PROS: * Better handling when cycling, higher frequencies can be achieved * Includes SPD spikes (10 cost - 15 ) * Pedal changes are quick with included tool * Smaller pedals and reversible pedals are easier to align/fix * Affordable and makes the bike look better. * Reliable and well-established brand, excellent customer service CONS: * Does not include printed installation guide (but intuitive/easy-to-find tutorials online) * No? See photos for pedal comparison [Since I have all three Joroto pedals at the moment I decided to take some pictures and give users a chance to compare them. The OG pedals that came with the stock Joroto X2, the black SPD/Toe Cage hybrid pedals, and these "unusual" SPD pedals]
