UPDATE: 3 months. in. All four lightsabers are now broken. My kids play with this about once a week so they must have become unstable over time and not all are broken and unusable. I hope the company will replace these items because we really enjoy these. AWESOME lightsabers for a fraction of the price. It was our kids' FAVORITE gift and now it's our favorite gift. Also, there are technically two in each box, so your kid (or you!) can make a staff or second sword for a friend. Or two swords for yourself! The sound and color change when the sword "cuts" into something. There is an option to turn off the sound! (optional!) Sword section telescopes slide in and stow them back in the box (which was perfect for us traveling through airport security with them in our suitcases. We've been using them a lot lately). 3 months old and they are still in perfect condition. All of our Christmas gifts were shipped via Amazon to Hawaii where we were vacationing and received two days later - amazing! ** Be sure to order BATTERIES so you can play with it right away!
