When I first connected this to the car battery it showed 36V. I disconnected it and then reconnected it. It read correctly at 12.71 volts. I tested a 580 CCA battery and it worked fine at 531 volts. I tried it on a 12 volt lawn mower battery that wasn't holding a charge. I just connected the charger to it. I plugged this in and it recognized "surface charge". They told me to turn on the headlights. The display showed that the headlights were on. They told me to turn off the headlights. He then confirmed the surface charge and recommended replacing the battery. Easy to use. Update: I am reducing this to one star out of five. After testing other batteries, I found this to be unreliable. I'm just guessing if the results are correct or not. Like when I check my car for 580 CSA, it's correct. But when checking other batteries with a higher CCA, marine, conventional, automotive, non-automotive, two of them new and fully charged, it says they need to be replaced. It's all 850 or higher CCA, but it shouldn't matter. It also shows surface charge, but doesn't detect headlights that are on. Also, after checking the ship's battery, it displayed the MCA even if it hadn't checked the ship's battery. I regret buying this. This is after the return period has expired. Even if the results are correct, I do not trust it.
