About 5 colors were so similar in hue that it was difficult to tell them apart at a glance. I would welcome options in larger sets, but with smaller sets like this I'd rather have more differentiated color options. My first impression of the pens was good. The tips were flexible and brush-like. I achieve thin lines with a light touch, thicker lines with a slightly heavier hand, and broad strokes with a tilt of the pen. The color comes out a little dry on the first pass if you're using fast strokes, but a slower stroke is fine if you want a solid line. It was also relatively easy to fill in an area without noticeable stroke overlap. This may be due to the drier ink, but I appreciated it. Mixing with water worked well, but stronger hits remained heavy and noticeable. If you use too much water you will end up with thick lines scattered in the blurry environment. Use the mixing water sparingly and the results will be closer to those shown in the product photos. Keep in mind that to create something like a stag in a maker's test image, you may need to layer your work to let it dry between passes. Whether you use these pens with the included water blending pens or use them full strength, they can be a fun addition. to your artist needs. Give them some time and practice a little to understand how they work for better results. A comment on the packaging - the description states that the set comes in a nice box and shows a picture of the pens standing upright and easily accessible from the top, similar to a box of pencils. This is not what I received. The set I received arrived in a plain box with no hinged lid and the pens were enclosed in two plastic trays. I'll throw away the box and keep the pens in a cup for easier access.
