After a long search for a Sony S-Video OEM cable for my PS2 at a reasonable price but without success I decided to to use a third-party solution. I was tempted by the price of this product but after reading some of the reviews, one in particular, I decided to take a chance. The review that made me buy it was from EposVox, a YouTube host I've been following for a while. He has material on retro games and CRT displays, but I digress. As soon as I connected the cable and turned on my PS2, I was immediately impressed. The S-Video signal is clear without noticeable image noise, and the video signal does not merge into the sound. The next thing that strikes me right away is that S-Video even held up to the 480i component, clarity and color depth were slightly better with S-Video. I've seen some reviews stating that the end that connects to the console has a choke hold, I haven't found this to be the case. It's tight, but unless you just try to squeeze it in place, there's no way you can damage the console. Overall the cable looks like a quality product, although the RCA and S-Video ends seem a bit flimsy. The plugs themselves feel great! My only complaint, albeit a very small one considering how easy it is to fix, is that the audio is connected the other way around. The left channel plug transmits the sound of the right channel and vice versa. Just connect red to white and white to red and the tone is where it should be.
