Review on Hario Slow Drip Coffee Brewer 780ml: The Clear Choice for Flavorful Coffee Perfection by Jim Ball

Choose another cold-pressed dropper

The design of this product is so imperfect that it is practically useless. In addition, the manufacturer is completely unresponsive and apparently unwilling to support their product. A particular problem I have with each use is that the water flow drops from the recommended 2 drops to zero in 3 seconds in a very short time. Readjust the drip rate and the problem will appear again. This is probably due to the lack of sensitivity of the valve - the flow doesn't change beyond 70% of the valve's adjustment range, and once the flow starts to change there is micro-adjustment of the lever (i.e. so little that I can barely control it) results in disproportionately large flow adjustments. If you try to compensate for this by setting the initial speed above the recommended speed, the result is: a) the same as described, but slightly above the recommended speed; b) the bay when set high enough to complete the brewing process without readjustment; or c) a defective cup of coffee. There is an easy fix to this problem in the right valve design, but apparently Hario couldn't find that for their $260 product. If you are looking for a cold drip coffee brewing system, I would recommend purchasing a product from another manufacturer.
