I bought this jacket last year for the winter for my 2t and the 2-3 for him perfectly with Room to grow. We live in Ohio and it gets really cold here in winter. I would use this jacket for the car seat every single time and it is perfect. If it was especially cold that day I'd just throw a blanket over him but it kept him warm throughout the whole winter for trips where we wouldn't spend much time outdoors besides in the car or the store. Perfect fall coat too. Not warm enough to play in snow! I just bought the next size up for this winter since my son had a big growth spurt since I bought this. Honestly I want to order the next size up so that I know I'll have another one just in case they stop selling. It's that good! Covers his head and room for a hat under it. You will not regret getting this coat! Wears and washes no issues as well.
