I'm renting and I'm sure the old lamp was good to use because a pull and chain broke. I watched a quick tutorial on youtube to know what to expect when unscrewing a light and to make sure I can actually replace it without breaking myself and it was quick and easy to do. I got lucky and the circuit broke with the lights on so my buddy stood by the fuse box and called my cell phone and just flipped the switches until the lights went out. If your light is off, you may need a voltage tester or a way to ensure the power is safely disconnected from the light before you begin handling any wires. Then simply connect wires of the same color to the dots of the same color on the light fixture. I received the light in one day and it took less than 10 minutes to replace it. The chain tensions smoothly, the lamp is easy to assemble and works perfectly. No complaints!
