Review on πŸ’» SIIG Full Speed M.2 M Key Nvme SSD to PCIe Adapter with Heatsink – Supports Windows 7/8/10 and Multiple Form Factor M.2 SSDs by Scott Richardson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Surprisingly BIG performance.

Based on first impressions I would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs an extra M.2 slot. I wanted to use 3 M.2 drives for my build, a 1TB 970 EVO Plus drive for OS and programs, 1TB for Intel 660p storage and my old 512GB 970 Pro for frequently used files and media. However, my motherboard only has 2 M.2 storage slots, so I bought it to continue using my 970 Pro SSD. The SIIG reader didn't need to install any drivers (Samsung NVMe 3.3 drivers already installed), just popped my old Samsung 970 Pro 512GB NVMe SSD into the reader and plugged it into the PCIe x8 slot. Out of the box, the synthetic benchmark performance improves compared to connecting to the second M.2 slot on the motherboard, which now houses my 1TB memory card. I've attached 2 photos, the first is with a 970 Pro card connected to the motherboard M.2 slot, the second is a 970 Pro connected to a SIIG reader. I was surprised to see a slightly better benchmark performance from the SIIG reader. Motherboard: EVGA Z370 Classified K runs Windows 10 Pro with all software and driver updates installed. ONLY CONS: I can't set up booting from the SIIG card on my computer, I'm not sure if other motherboards can boot from it or not.
