They work best on race tracks
compared to the Aurora track I had as a kid (in the 60's) and this generation's locking pattern is the same as the old one Aurora model inferior to Motoring" track joints (had steel dowel pins and a clip that locked sections together more positively than them). But that was then and that is now, so it's probably the best you can get in the current millennium. These new ones connect quicker, but the downside is that they also disconnect (or detach and lose electrical connection) much more easily.
